Massage techniques can release painful muscle tension, improve circulation and reduce mental & physical fatigue. It is the most effective means available to combat stress. When performing a Swedish massage these strokes are used: long flowing strokes, deep kneading, surface friction, light tapping and joint movement.
Massage therapists have completed many hours of education including a variety of massage techniques, extensive anatomy & physiology and knowledge of when massage is and is not appropriate. To practice in New York State all massage therapists must be licensed.
Your session will begin by answering general health questions since there are some conditions for which massage is not appropriate. Always tell me if you have a medical problem, even minor ones. Also, let your primary care provider know you are receiving a massage. Some conditions require close communication between massage therapist and your doctor.
I will gladly provide regular progress reports.
During each session, a lubricant will be used, such as light oil or lotion, which is good for your skin and absorbs well.
Each session begins with relatively gently pressure to calm you and as a result releases superficial tension. To address
specific areas, gradually deeper pressure may be applied.
Please make yourself comfortable on the table, change position anytime to make you more comfortable. You may just want to close your eyes and relax completely during a session, or you may prefer to talk. Remember that this is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Taking deep natural breaths can help you relax. Give it a try. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
Massage on healthy tissue feels good. The saying “no pain, no gain” is not true for massage. The most effective and deepest massage works with the body’s naturally, not against it. In an area of an injury or chronic pain some discomfort may be present, which usually lessens shortly. As massage therapist, I know ways to minimize pain, and will work carefully within
what feels right to you. Always tell me of any discomfort so that I can make proper adjustments.
After a session, most feel very relaxed. You may have an initial period of feeling slowed, then may experience an increase
in energy that can last for several days. You may still have questions, I will be happy to answer them. In the end, the best answers will come from experiencing massage first hand.
Enjoy in good health!
